Robert Kordić is an associate specializing in intellectual property law, but his additional strongpoints are two heavily intertwined areas of law: corporate/M&A and competition & EU.

He works on corporate/M&A engagements, heads multi-jurisdictional transactions, cross-border due diligence workstreams and is a go-to specialist when it comes to competition matters, including obtaining EU and Slovenian merger control clearances for clients and handling competition law risk.

Robert’s work encompasses a wide range of experience across the spectrum of competition law matters, including representing clients in EU and Slovenian merger control procedures, sector/market investigations, abuse of dominance investigations, competition law risk assessments and abuse control and state aid law. He is involved in all transactions, in particular in cross-border mergers.

Robert Kordić is a former Max-Planck scholarship holder and has lectured on competition law and intellectual property topics at the Universities of Zagreb and Sarajevo.

Intellectual Property

After more than 10 years of experience spanning from being a co-head of the industrial property department of the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office, where he was actively involved in the preparation and drafting of laws and EU regulations, to being a legal advisor on IP matters in renowned SEE law firms working and coordinating comprehensive and demanding cross-jurisdictional M&A projects, Robert joined CMS in Ljubljana in 2019. Since then, he has been advising national and international corporate clients on legal issues related to intellectual property, media law, helping with all aspects of copyright and related rights, design rights, trademark rights, passing off, breach of confidence and patents.

Robert’s intellectual property work ranges from day-to-day IP advice such as registration of trademarks through optimisation of IP portfolio of companies, IP litigations, drafting of cease-and-desist letters to working on infringement cases.

His clients, whether they are start-ups or big corporates, come from wide range of industries where IP is high on the agenda, such as BioTech, MedTech, AgriTech, pharmaceutical, communications, media, and IT. His strength are also collective management associations where IP quite often intertwines with competition law.

Robert Kordić is a former Max-Planck scholarship holder and has lectured on competition law and intellectual property topics at the Universities of Zagreb and Sarajevo.

CMS RRH Competition team made their mark at the international competition...
Last week (9 and 10 May 2024), our team represented CMS RRH Competition practice at the “Meet to Compete Competition Law and Policy Conference – Tools for New Rules” held in Opatija, Croatia. Dieter Zandler from CMS Austria, Marija Zrno Prošić, Dina Čeliković and Filip Bjelinski from Croatia, Srđan Janković and Maja Živanović (Serbia, Montenegro & North Macedonia), and Robert Kordić and Gašper Hajdu from Slovenia, together spent two wonderful days in interactive discussions with representatives of competition authorities, judges, attorneys, in-house lawyers, and other legal practitioners from all over the Europe. During the first day of the conference, discussions centered on topics including concentrations and FSR, the implications of the "effects-based approach," and recent developments in the Central and Southeast Europe (CEE & SEE) region. The team spent their first conference day pleasantly networking at the coffee break powered by CMS and in the evening at the cocktail and dinner with conference attendees. The second day of the conference was all about workshops covering topics such as exclusionary abuses of dominance, horizontal agreements and disagreements, RPM, etc. Our Marija Zrno Prošić led a focused workshop on the most common vertical restraints, using practical examples from the field and engaging with the audience through survey questions to enhance interaction and understanding. The audience reactions were very positive and discussions continued after the workshop. Overall, we were happy to have our close-nit competition team at this conference, as such events with regional outreach are crucial in fostering collaboration, enhance understanding of regulatory nuances, and promote best practices across different jurisdictions. About the Conference The Conference traditionally offers a platform for discussion about recent antitrust developments, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and South-East Europe (SEE). The Conference is supported by the Croatian Competition Agency, universities and local organizations, with great speakers from the OECD, European Commission, universities, industry and regulators from the entire region and Europe.
