Healthcare: a portfolio of healthcare projects

We currently advise on over 40 acute healthcare PPP/PFI projects in their operational phase including: Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool; QEH Birmingham, Queen’s Hospital, Romford; Swindon Hospital ; Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford; Coventry and Rugby (Walsgrave) Hospital; Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, Forth Valley Hospital, Larbert; South Tees Hospitals, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.

Our advice has helped clients to navigate issues arising out of default termination, the liquidation of Carillion, appointing replacement contractors, emergency works during COVID, settlements of disputes with alleged defects, changes to services, standstill agreements and settlement agreements.

Defence: Aspire Defence Limited

We advised on the construction and refurbishment of the £12bn PFI Allenby & Connaught accommodation which was the largest PFI accommodation project in the UK. We continue to advise on all operational matters including a £1.8bn variation to support the withdraw of British troops from Germany in 2019 and relocation within the UK.

Transport: Nottingham Express Transit

We advised the project company and the sponsor consortium on its successful bid and financial close of the £600m tram extension project which involved termination of the incumbent PPP contractor and the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of two new connecting tram lines.  We continue to advise on a range of matters including Force Majeure relief events, variations, planning and land matters, restructurings to allow an Authority loan to the project company, COVID relief and various disputes with subcontractors.

Schools: a portfolio of UK schools projects

We advise on a large number of education projects procured under the Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP) and Building Schools for the Future (BSF) including: Derbyshire County Council BSF, Cambridgeshire County Council BSF,  Barnsley BSF and Yorkshire PSBP projects as well as BSF projects in Bradford, Halton & Warrington, Barking & Dagenham, Coventry, Bristol, Kent, Tyneside, Islington, Ealing and Hertfordshire.
