16 June 2023

International law firm CMS has advised provider of sportsbook technology, content, and services OpenBet on the acquisition of Neccton, a leading gambling service provider of responsible gaming, anti-money laundering, and fraud detection technology.

OpenBet’s systems are used by some of the best-known names in the sports betting industry, including FanDuel and SkyBet. This acquisition will combine OpenBet’s existing cutting-edge technology with Neccton’s cloud and AI capabilities and will expand OpenBet’s current player protection offerings and support to the betting industry.

CMS Corporate partner Nick Crosbie commented: “OpenBet and Neccton share a common goal of providing advanced responsible gaming solutions to the betting industry and their combined technology will help them to achieve that goal. Our in-depth corporate and online gambling sector expertise put us in a great place to advise OpenBet on this acquisition, and we wish them success in this new partnership.”

The CMS multijurisdictional team was led by Nick Crosbie and included David Zeffman (Gambling); Sarah Wilson and Belinda Sweeney (Corporate); Robert Sartor (Tax); and Clemens Grossmeyer and Georg Gutfleisch (Corporate – CMS Austria).

The CMS Gambling practice combines regulatory and day-to-day operational expertise with a global full-service offering including regulatory investigations, mergers and acquisitions, tax, intellectual property, finance, employment litigation and data protection advice.
